About this project

This interactive explorer uses measured KEMAR head-related impulse responses to demonstrate how sound direction can be reproduced over headphones.

Understanding directions

Every direction is relative to the head in the center. Left means the head’s left ear, right means its right ear, and front means the direction its face points.

When the head faces you, its left appears on your right side of the screen—just like another person facing you. The source controls, azimuth, HRIR plots, and headphone channels all follow the head’s perspective.

For the intended binaural effect, listen through headphones. Uploaded audio streams locally and is never sent to the server.
